A kitten that found itself in the middle of a bridge was rescued at the last minute. A week later, he is fully enjoying his new life.
After several name changes in a few days and especially a spectacular rescue on a bridge , a shelter kitten found a loving family, reported The San Diego Union Tribune on Tuesday, October 3.
It was called Crash (accident), then Zipper (central reservation). Now it is called Rio . This little feline is a miracle. It all started at the beginning of last week.
On Tuesday, September 26, a motorist noticed his tiny silhouette on the busy San Diego-Coronado Bridge in California. The animal was in great danger, so the person stopped to try to get it to safety. It had a noble intention, but the maneuver of this good Samaritan caused an accident involving 3 vehicles.
The kitten found itself trapped in the central reservation. A firefighter eventually retrieved him and handed him over to the team at the local PAWS of Coronado shelter .
Jen Rubin and her husband Michael Griffith had heard of this accident. A few weeks earlier, they had submitted their application to PAWS of Coronado to adopt a cat. “ When I read about what happened, I thought, if this kitten needs a home, I’d like to give him one ,” says Jen Rubin .
His wish was granted. A first meeting took place at the shelter on Sunday October 1st . The next day, the young kitty was able to discover his new home after his adoption was made official.
“It will take time for him to recover”
The couple decided to call him Felipe Rios , Rio for short, in homage to a former American football player named Philip Rivers .
Renaming this kitten, who had already received 2 other names after his rescue, is a way for his adopters to help him draw a line under the past and make a new start. “ We wanted to dissociate him from the trauma and chaos that brought him to us ,” explains his mistress on this subject.
Rio is slowly adapting to his new environment. According to Jen Rubin , he finished an entire bowl of food on Tuesday. “ He spends a lot of time in a little cardboard box with a cover ,” she continues. It’s kind of his safety zone, so we’re very patient with him. It will take time for him to recover from everything that happened .”
