Volunteers demonstrate unwavering dedication in their efforts to save a courageous cat who faces an uncertain future.
Bucky was found on a construction site when he was very young. Placed in the caring hands of volunteers from the Chats des Rues association (93), the survivor with the pretty face could have made a new start in life with complete peace of mind. But fate decided otherwise… Touched by its history and concerned about its future, the Woopets editorial team contacted its benefactors.
“ His eyes are crying for help!” », writes the team of the Chats des Rues ( ACR ) association. Our animal friends may not be gifted with speech, but they know how to express themselves clearly in other ways.
Bucky , found on a construction site by workers when he was just a tiny kitten, sent silent cries for help via his stunning peepers reflecting the sky.
Brought back to the ACR , Bucky immediately melted the hearts of the volunteers. Although he was saved from a life of wandering, the cat was not at the end of his troubles…
“ His abnormally swollen belly was worrying, but no one could have guessed the fight he was going to have to fight ,” say his benefactors. Despite the treatments, a veil seemed to darken the mirror of his soul…
“A fight we can win”
“ The diagnosis came like a hammer blow: Bucky suffers from dry FIP, a form of feline infectious peritonitis which affects his once so lively eyes ,” explain the members of the association, “ without treatment, death occurs in just a few days to a few weeks after the onset of symptoms. »
However, the volunteers and their little protégé do not let themselves be intimidated by the Reaper , who waits patiently in the shadows. Refusing to give up, the volunteers set up an intense protocol with the veterinarian, over 168 days: “ 84 days of injections and 84 days of monitoring and post-treatment . »
So, the sweet feline received daily injections, while being pampered and loved as he deserves. “ The treatment paralyzes the FIP virus ,” emphasize Bucky ’s guardian angels , “when it is paralyzed, it can no longer do damage to the body. »
A process which costs 2,844 euros, which is why the Chats des Rues association has launched an online prize pool . “ Together we can bring hope and show that illness is not an end, but a fight we can win ,” she says.
“We are all crossing our fingers at the association! »
On December 11, a spokesperson for the organization announced to the Woopets editorial staff that Bucky was reaching the end of 84 injections. An important step!
“ A blood test at the end of the week will tell us if we can stop, or if we still have to administer the treatment ,” the volunteer told us, “ we’re all keeping our fingers crossed at the association!” »
Unfortunately, PIF proves tenacious. His caregivers must extend the injections until December 27. “ Then, Bucky will be under post-treatment observation to, we very much hope, observe the evolution of the disease until we can declare him cured ,” concluded our source.
As the writer Michel Bouthot so well noted , “ hope has bright eyes ”. We hope that little Bucky is finally freed from the clutches of this disease, and that his magnificent pupils regain their former light. Wouldn’t that be the best Christmas present ?
