The first time I encountered her, the scene before me was like a horrifying sight. It has been three months since then, but the image of the newborn kitten lying motionless on the grass, covered in thousands of flies, remains vivid in my mind.
At first, I thought it was a discarded dead body, slowly decomposing. But as I approached closer, I noticed slight movements on the kitten’s belly, indicating that it was still alive, albeit weak and struggling to breathe.
I couldn’t wait any longer. I grabbed a fan and shooed away the swarm of black flies. At that moment, the kitten managed to open its eyes and mustered its last bit of strength to lift its head and look at me. I brought out some food and water, hoping it would fare better after being provided with nourishment. But the kitten was too weak to swallow anything.
I called my teammates and together we prepared a box to take the kitten home. However, we discovered that its hind legs were broken. So, I decided to take it to the hospital first.
On the way there, the kitten’s spirit seemed to stabilize. X-ray results revealed a severe fracture in its hind leg, with the thigh bone broken into three pieces and even protruding from the bone socket. The kitten had to stay at the hospital to prepare for surgery the next day.
Despite the pain, the kitten remained well-behaved and didn’t utter a single cry. After a long night, when we returned to the hospital to visit the kitten, the doctor informed us that it had eaten a little and seemed better after a long sleep.
Upon seeing me, the kitten attempted to stand up as if welcoming me. Subsequently, the surgery was performed and successful. Its tiny little leg had to endure 12 stitches and was immobilized with a cast.
Two weeks after the surgery, our little warrior had the cast removed and gradually began to recover. Although still swollen and often had to lie on its back due to leg pain, the kitten received care and enjoyed delicious meals every day.
Its health improved day by day, and the bone became stable. Currently, it has fully recovered and walks normally. The speed of its quick recovery surprised the doctor.
This adorable little angel is now living a happy life with the rescue team. We appreciate its presence in our lives and are very grateful.
