Ireland stormed to a dominant 10-wicket victory over Germany in their opening match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier Division One at Hazelaarweg Stadion, Rotterdam.
Germany, having won the toss, crumbled to 62 all out in 18.2 overs, with only Christina Gough (28 from 39) offering resistance. Ireland captain Laura Delany produced a superb taking 4-9 to dismantle the German batting order.
In reply, openers Amy Hunter (31* off 23) and Gaby Lewis (29* off 22) wasted no time, chasing down the target in just 7.3 overs without loss.
The round-robin tournament also features the Netherlands and Italy, with
the top two sides advancing to the global qualifiers in Nepal this January. Ireland, buoyed by a recent 2-1 series win over Pakistan, are firm favourites to secure one of those spots.
Their next test comes against hosts the Netherlands on Thursday at 10:00 BST.
