A pregnant woman was shot dead outside a shop after an argument with another woman.

32-year-old Latoya Davis was found dead outside the Wawa convenience store at 910 MacDade Boulevard in Collingdale, Pennsylvania on Saturday 5 October at around 7.20pm. She is believed to have rowed with another woman outside the store, with the argument becoming heated.

As Davis turned to leave, it’s alleged that the other woman shot at her according to reports. Collingdale Police Department responded with Latoya pronounced dead at the scene outside the store, with a gunshot wound through her torso. A police investigator report stated Davis was “laying on the ground in the side parking lot suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper torso”. Police later arrested 30-year-old Evelena Williams a short time later.

Security video footage from the Wawa has caught the moment Williams fired at Davis, according to the Delaware County District Attorney’s Office. Williams, who told police she had a license to carry a firearm, has now admitted to shooting the victim in an affidavit seen by USA TODAY.

In her statement she claims she “fired one shot” at the pregnant woman, and then put the gun (which was later revealed to be a Ruger .380 semi automatic firearm) in her car. At the scene a .380 cartridge casing was later found in the parking lot.

The details of the argument between the two women is still not known. The police claim the two women did not know each other beforehand. Delaware County District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer added: “Unfortunately they ended up parking their cars next to each other.”

Williams is expected to make an appearance in court for a preliminary hearing on Wednesday (9 October). She is facing charges of criminal homicide, first-degree murder of an unborn child, third-degree murder of an unborn child, first-degree murder, and third-degree murder.

Evelena Williams

Police later arrested Evelena Williams, who now faces charges of murder including that of Latoya Davis’ unborn child.

Williams is currently being held without bail at the Delaware County Prison, with no legal representation listed in court records. Police have called for anyone with information about this incident to make contact.

The tragedy is said to have shocked the Collingdale community, whilst highlighting the grim consequences of gun violence. It comes as another incident in Kentucky saw a 40-year-old nurse shot dead in a murder-suicide. Police attended the address in Baghdad, Kentucky where two bodies are believed to have died in a murder-suicide, and were later identified as 40-year-old nurse Jessica Hager and her sister-in-law’s ex who is belived to have shot Hager before turning the gun on himself.

Initially the shooter’s name was not released, but law authorities have now confirmed his identity as Michael Rahmlow. Rahmlow is believed to be the ex partner of Hager’s sister-in-law, although the reason for the violence against Hager has not been confirmed.
