Spotify Responds to Snoop Dogg’s Criticism: “A Billion Streams Generates Millions!”
Snoop Dogg, who recently made waves by moving his music catalog to Tune.FM, criticized his Spotify earnings after claiming he only made $45,000 from a staggering one billion streams. However, Spotify is firing back, saying the numbers don’t add up and that the rapper might want to look into his financials.
A Spotify spokesperson told TMZ Hip Hop, “We can’t speak to endorsement deals for Web3 companies, but $45K for a billion streams? It’s well documented that a billion streams on Spotify generates millions of dollars to rights holders. It’s unfortunate to hear that Spotify’s payments didn’t make it through to Snoop.”
The statement continued, “Snoop’s a legend, and hopefully now that he owns Death Row Records, he’s seeing more of that money.”
Snoop’s move to Tune.FM was officially announced earlier today, with the rapper dropping a new track in celebration. The song is currently unavailable on Spotify, signaling his shift to the blockchain-powered streaming service, which promises higher payouts for artists. Snoop’s collaboration with Tune.FM founder Andrew Antar is set to bring his music exclusively to the platform.
Snoop had previously expressed frustration with Spotify in December 2023, claiming he only received $45K from a billion streams. However, Spotify insists that the amount generated by a billion streams is far higher, implying that there may have been issues with how the money was distributed.
The streaming giant emphasized that the funds likely didn’t make it directly to Snoop, pointing out that there is plenty of money to be made from such high streaming numbers, and it’s unfortunate that Snoop didn’t benefit from it.
