Ferris, Texas — August 14, 2025 — Rumors have been swirling among Yellowstone fans about a spinoff series titled Rio Palo filming in Texas, but producers have now set the record straight. According to a representative from 101 Studios, the company behind Taylor Sheridan’s expanding TV universe, the project filming in Ferris, Texas is not called Rio Palo—and its official title has yet to be revealed.
Local reports from outlets including The Dallas Express suggested that the new spinoff, currently in production outside Dallas, had adopted the name Rio Palo. However, 101 Studios confirmed that this was incorrect. The series is instead the long-awaited continuation featuring fan-favorite characters Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler, played by Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser. Young actor Finn Little will also return as Carter.
Previously, the project had been referred to under the working title Dutton Ranch, but Hauser himself clarified that it would not be the final name. The official title is still being kept under wraps.
The decision to film in Ferris, a small town about 20 miles south of Dallas, has drawn excitement from the local community.
“This is a proud and fun moment for Ferris,” said City Manager Brooks Williams. “Paramount’s decision to film here is one more chapter in our story. It affirms that a place with roots can still move forward, that a city shaped by history can also shape what comes next.”
Local casting calls have already gone out, seeking extras ranging from rodeo attendees and bar patrons to stand-ins and specific character doubles.
While Yellowstone and its spinoffs have traditionally been filmed in Montana, the move to Texas represents a significant shift in setting. What this change means for the storyline of Beth and Rip remains to be seen, though fans are already speculating on how the new environment might influence the characters’ future.
The untitled spinoff was initially expected to premiere in November 2025, but its release has now been pushed to 2026 on Paramount Network.
With Sheridan juggling multiple projects—including The Madison, 1944, and Y: Marshals—fans can expect the Yellowstone universe to keep expanding, even as the flagship series nears its conclusion.
